My Weapons

I was just messing around in my bathroom-atelier, fighting against my inner enemies with my brushes and knives. As I finally lost the war, full of rage against myself I threw my weapons into the sink. A little bit later, when I had calmed down and wanted to wash them for the next fight, I was struck by the beauty of what I saw in the sink. I swear, I did not touch or add anything, it was exactly like that!

I guess I have more chance now to sell this photo than the paintings I did!

PS: as you see, the blood I lost in this war today was yellow, and not red!

The Enchanted Art is attacking the Market…

Here they are, eventually, my leaflets and visit cards for the new gallery.

The advertising campaign about my Enchanted Art can start now.

I know, calling my Art “Enchanted” might sound a little bit presumptuous, but one calls it aggressive marketing. No chance to avoid it, considering the enormous artistic competition nowadays, if one wants to succeed   :-)

The Doors are Open!

So, it’s done, we have officially launched my new gallery, inaugurating it with the visit of Jackie, a nice English lady living round the corner. She had noticed big activity in the last 2 weeks and wanted to see the gallery before she flew back to England, today.

Kevin hung the last few paintings, swept the floor and put out some cool Vino Rosado (the favourite English tipple in Spain)

She had a great look all around, even admiring my bullfight paintings although she does not like the bullfight itself, and was not scared to face with a big smile a herd of wild bulls running towards her…

Jackie stood a long time with us, We had an interesting conversation about my art and many other themes.

We found that in fact it was the best way to present this new gallery to the public, making personal invitations and spending one-on-one time to get to know each other. We all really appreciate the time spent together yesterday.

Jackie was especially attracted to my Fantascapes and Eroscapes, and kept going back to them. Finally she even decided to buy one, and we sealed the sale with an happy “Cheers!”.

I will tell you in my next post which Eroscape she bought as I have a touching story to tell you about it.

The Party is Over…

Well, not totally, but at least the inauguration of my exhibition in the Culture Centre of Mojacar (Almeria, Spain) is done and I can breathe again… and perhaps even paint!

My dear Kevin who was charged with making the photos while I was trying to entertain the visitors, was apparently too busy by the great buffet which the wonderful people from “Rolys too!” (the place where I have the other exhibition, Las Bougainvillas, Vera)) had arranged for us. So the only photos we had after the show was some of the food, and some of the local culture boss taking photos of me! But perhaps you will enjoy to see that food too, in fact you have seen here so many of my paintings already that you don’t need to see them again, do you?

I want my Donuts back!

Here are the last sketches I did in our Mojacer Beach cafe (Spain, Provincia de Almeria) before we left on Sunday afternoon to come back to our “normal” home.

Of course there are here cafes in the sun too, and people sit there drinking coffee and reading nespapers, but el cafe con leche here is not as good as in the English bars in Mojacar and they don’ t serve these incredible donuts with it, so I am not sure that I will go on sketching people, at least for the moment. Yes, my painter career depends on donuts, as simple as that!

But well, next Monday we drive to France and the café au lait might be better there, and they have croissants, so I might become a people sketcher again then…

The Art of Reading Newspapers -1-

What fascinates me in my (almost) daily sketching of people sitting at the cafes, is, as well as the artistic challenge, the opportunity to observe these people in such banal activities as drinking coffee, eating donuts, calling, smoking a cigarette, etc… It is incredible to see how many different, personal ways there are to hold a cup a coffee, a telephone, a cigarette… most of the time the whole body is even involved! Believe me, when you start at looking into the world with the curious, introspective eyes of a painter, you never get bored!

Today I will start a series of sketches about the art of reading newspaper. I have already published some in the past, but outside the theme, and will republish them in this category, but a little bit later in time, when you have already forgotten them. :-)

Here are the ones I did today, by the beach. Please observe how the way of holding and reading the newspapers, and even the whole body attitude totally match to the faces, the hair style, the clothes and even the tattoos!

Laptop with Sunscreen?

Today, in our favourite cafe by the beach, I saw for the first time since we have been going there, 2 young Spanish boys. You know this is the problem with living in Spain by the sunny coast, most of the people are either tourists, old, or both! And the ones who are not, the Spaniards, you never see them because they are working for the tourists, and anyway they generally avoid the sunny cafe terraces, preferring the shade.

These two boys were sitting there today, with a laptop. The first laptop I saw there, too, and I kind of liked it, yes, I love computers, everywhere! It was just so funny watching the two boys as they tried for a long time to view the screen, first with the computer buttons, then shading it with the hands, even using the café menu as a sun shade, but all to no avail: they couldn´t see anything on the screen, except their own reflection! A sunny cafe terrace in Spain is not the place to work on a computer! It´s much more suited to doing crosswords or smoking a cigarette!

A tip for all artists who want to sell more paintings:
I noticed that people buy paintings by colours, I have for example a client (not a woman) who always buy paintings with a lot of pink in it. And another buy ALL my paintings based on the combination yellow and purple. Once you know that, it´s easy to make money with art!

Phantom City, though, was not bought by the pink man, but by en English Lady living in London…

PS: I almost forgot, Rug Mug is served!
