Serpa – 6 – (Travel Sketches Portugal 2009)

Some other people from Serpa, hanging around on cafes (You can see a firts series of Serpa people sketches here )

Serpa 32 2009 SYou can read the funny story connected to this sketch, “The tiniest Coffee in The World”,  in Cafe Crem

Serpa 33 2009 SI hadn;t really time to finish this sketch. The guy left suddenly his contemplative position, got up and went away, I guess his beer was finished. I can’t remember what all the stuff on the right side is, it looks weird to me, but it was certainly there  🙂

Serpa 34 2009 STh tiniest coffee cup in the world (from the story above) reappeared in another cofe, as you can see it. i guess Portuguese drink such kind of awful stuff…

If you wonder what the lion and the rosa elephant and the blue hippopotamus are doing there… they were little toys hanging to a baby pushchair. I have no idea though if there was a baby in the chair, I haven;t seen him all the time these people were sitting there. Sleeping probably..

Keith Richards

Keith Richards S

Some days ago I felt the need to go back to the world of portraits… this always happens to me after an intenive time of painting/sketching landscapes, which is right now the case with my travel sketches of Portugal and Spain.

This is a portarit of Keith Richards, you know, from the Rolling Stones…

how he looks like nowadays, a fascinating face to me.

This portrait is pure digital art, using my old Wacom tablet and the digital pen, of which I had forgotten the existence and in fact hardly used in the past. I can’t believe that I missed this tool all these years, as I enjoyed it so much! Now the tablet is definitely installed on my desk, and I will certainly use it more than once, for portraits or other kind of digital art. I must confess that I love digital art, one of the main reasons being  that… it is soooo clean!

Cafe Sketches

We have been so busy wiht many things ove rthe last few months, there was hardly time to relax! But 2 days ago, on the way back from some stressing palec where we had to some dome formalities, we decoded to make a haly by our favourite cafe by the beach: it had been weeks since we were there! Luckily for me, who can’t cope very well with just sitting around without doing anyhting, I had a small  sketch book in the car and could sit there, at Masko, sketching people again. And what a pleasure: Great motives were there that day, and I just regret that I hadn’t more time. Here are some of the sketches I did.

090618 The Delicate Woman reading The News SBy that woman reading the news, i was fascinated by her hands position, and the “delicateness” of the whole apparition…

especially the length of her neck, face and fingers…

090618 Doing Donuts SHere I guess that the woamn was telling off her husband about eating too much…

forgetting to look at herself in a mirror…

Sweet Marc

Marc Pearson BC SWEET S

(by Miki)

My name is Marc and I play Guitar and vocals for BC Sweet as well as managing the day to day affairs of the band. I’m a lucky guy. Many have said it, many more have thought it and I never forget it for one single day.

I am part of a fantastic band that rocks crowds across Europe. If someone had shown me a video of the BC Sweet of today compared to a few years ago, I would never have believed it. That statement is in NO WAY disrespectful to the wonderful people I have worked with in the band since I joined in 2000. It’s simply that today I have the best of all worlds, the best musicians as well as a wonderful chemistry on stage that is allowing the show to evolve and grow in a way I could never have hoped for.

I always wanted a band that the great Brian Connolly himself would have been proud of. I think, finally, I have that. BC Sweet is a solid and exciting unit performing the greatest hits of Sweet, keeping the songs alive for generations to come.

A BC Sweet show of today features all the hits of Sweet from the early bubblegum hits right through to the later more AOR type songs such as “Love Is Like Oxygen”. To all of you who spend your hard earned money travelling hundreds of miles sometimes, to come to our shows, or taking time to drop us emails and letters, we never take it for granted. Thanks for supporting BC Sweet, we love ya loads.”

Of course, i have tarted with the lead singer/bassist of the band, Kev Moore

in one of his tyical crazy outfits when he is on stage with BC SWEET

Now, I will do again some outrageous hoem advertising, but if you are not far way from a place where they have a gig, go and listen to them,

they are simply fantastic!

A quiet moment on the balcony

james-spader-with-text-sA short time ago we  finished watching the American series

“Boston legal”

and I must say that it is one of my favourite series all time, perhaps even THE favourite.

I love the humour in it, and more than anything I love the friendship between the two male main characters, “Alan Shore” and “Denny Crane”.

As the series was finished, it was really sad for me, as if I was losing some friends of mine…

So, the best way to get them back now is to spend some time with them, making their portraits. I wanted to catch them both in this wonderful moment they were spending on their balcony, smoking a cigar, at the end of each episode, and sharing wise thoughts about themselves and the world. I started with Alan, Denny will follow soon.

My God, how I miss these

quiet moments on their balcony!

My last portrait… I hope you recognise him!

Unfortunately there are not many artists making portraits, I find, and I feel quite alone here in WordPress with this art. If you feel like discussing with me about the art of portraying, or about anything concerning portrait paintings, or simply love this art, please join me at

I would be very pleased about that. I present there regularly my last works in this field, “classical” portraits in different techniques as well as caricatures.

The Power of Daydreaming

Ink & Watercolour

Ink & Watercolour

For about 6 months now I have been in the process of moving.

Moving from one house into the other, from one art gallery into the other.

I hate packing. And believe me, the amount of painting materials and paintings I have is gigantic, so to move only this part of my past life is already a life’s work. This is why I decided to do it gradually, taking it easy. The Housing market in Spain being at a standstill, nobody is rushing to buy my lovely house, so I can take as much time as I need.

The other day I was there, about 260 kilometres north of here, and I wanted to bring back my big new canvasses, which I ordered there before I left last Summer, but unfortunately they are so big that they don’t fit into the car. Frustrated, I decided to bring back some of my older sketch books, and other little things.

Today, a little bit bored and without any energy to start some new stuff, I had a glance at some of them, and found sketches which I of course had totally forgotten. This happens to me all the time by the way: I normally paint so fast and so prolifically that my paintings have no time to get recorded in my memory! Anyway, this is how I found this one. As I saw it, I remembered every detail again. A young girl had posed for me at that time for a fast sketch, and I remember how, a little bit annoyed by the boring position I had started to imagine things around her… and especially the cushions on the armchair, under her bum and behind her back had more and more taken the form of wings which seemed to grow from her body… and I even saw lots of butterflies flying all around her head!

A typical example of what suddenly happens to my brain when I get bored… I see things… bananas things…

some might call it the power of daydreaming!
